Prior to the Congressional recess, Jack Reed (D-RI), Co-Chair of the Northeast Midwest Senate Coalition, was instrumental in securing an additional $320 million in Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) program as part of Senate-passed supplemental appropriations bill -- which still needs to be reconciled with the House-passed version before being sent to the White House. However, due to provisions included in the measure on troop withdraw in Iraq; President Bush has threatened to veto the bill.
