The House Science Committee has planned hearings on energy efficiency this week. The goal of the hearings is to expand upon the energy savings that exist in the current energy bill drafts. Both the House and Senate energy bills would reduce emissions through energy efficiency by 19 percent in 2030 and would save the economy $850 billion.
On 9/25, the Research and Science Subcommittee examined why consumers have not made better use of energy efficiency technologies, considering that a survey by the Alliance to Save Energy indicated that consumers felt that they, along with business and government, should bear the burden of cutting energy use. Social, behavioral and economic experts will be testifying.
Industry, which accounts for one-third of U.S. energy use, also testified on their progress on industrial efficiency and what future efficiencies can be achieved.
