Senate
Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman Barbara Boxer (D-CA) says her
panel will begin to mark-up climate legislation in late July. Boxer is likely to take up the climate
portion of the Waxman-Markey bill as a starting point.
Also,
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has set a September 18 deadline for other Senate
committees with climate jurisdiction to mark-up the legislation. Reid has said that he wants to meld the
climate portion with the energy bill the Energy and Natural Resources Committee
passed earlier this month. At this time,
however, it is unclear if there are the 60 votes needed in the Senate to
approve a climate change bill.
